Master Scuba Diver Prep Course - the Benefits to You!
The Fun Part
The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating sets you apart from other dive instructors by showing your commitment to continuing your dive training and being prepared to help others continue their training as well. You also get to teach specialty diver courses – which opens the door to lots of fun while working.
What You Learn in the MSDT Prep Course:
You’re a new instructor? Just finished the IE? No problem. You and I can meet to talk about what specialties YOU would like and also what specialties will best help you get your students moving forward in a logical and practical manner - especially for the dive environment they enjoy the most.
As a PADI MSDT, you demonstrate to a dive employer that you have good experience in teaching diving and also can teach a range of specialty diver courses and that you are motivated to learn - this makes a dive center or resort more likely to offer you a position.
What You Can Teach
Upon completing your Specialty Instructor Rating with me, a PADI Course Director, and showing proof of ten applicable dive experiences* you can:
When you take the Master Scuba Diver Trainer Prep Course from me, a PADI Course Director, you are positioned to start teaching the specialties covered in your MSDT prep course right away! This means when you are already teaching an Open Water Diver course or an Advanced Open Water Course or even a Rescue Diver Course you are in an excellent position to meet the needs of your students by scheduling follow-up classes to skills you have just introduced them to. No need to arrange for another instructor - it's YOU! Additionally, you are able to teach the stand-alone specialties you hold the Specialty Instructor rating in without having to acquire twenty-five student certifications first!
When you participated in your Open Water Scuba Instructor course you learned the hints, tips and suggestions for the most effective and fun ways to promote and conduct courses so you were positioned for success. That's the same reason why you will want to take your specialty instruction from a PADI Course Director.
When you have acquired twenty-five student certifications - from any course - Open Water Diver and,/or any continuing education course - including your specialties - you qualify for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating.
Some of the specialty certifications** that work best for our local environment in Alberta are:
Dry Suit Diver Specialty: If you dive locally, you already know the benefits of diving with Dry Suit protection. You are more comfortable and our local dive season is extended since colder water is not an issue. Imagine teaching your open water divers in a dry suit - when you are a Dry Suit Specialty instructor, with the addition of one more training dive, your open water students are set for the season and will join you on the next dive training exercise in comfort and with ease.
Underwater Navigator Specialty: When you have completed your student's Advanced Open Water training - the Underwater Navigator Specialty is a natural progression with the skills they have been introduced to.
Deep Diver Specialty: Again, having already introduced your students to Deep Diving with the Deep Diver Adventure dive in the Advanced Open Water course you have the opportunity to lead them forward in their skills and confidence by completing the Deep Diver Specialty with them.
Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty: You already have your Emergency First Responder Instructor rating - the Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor rating goes hand in hand in ensuring divers and lay persons are able to assist at the site of a dive emergency. This is a natural add-on to any first aid course you are running. Additionally, when you teach the Rescue Diver Course you can also include Emergency Oxygen Provider as an add-on specialty making it simple and efficient for your students to acquire this very valuable skill.
Enriched Air Diver Specialty - PADI's most sought after specialty is Enriched Air Diver - don't miss out on the opportunity to introduce your students to this program while they are taking their Advanced Open Water Diver course with you - so easy to incorporate and such a bonus to your students it enhances their understanding of not only their dive tables but their personal computers as well making them that much more comfortable and informed about the physiology of diving.
** You are not limited to theses specialties - please ask me about your specific interest.
The Scuba Gear You Use
At this level as an Instructor, it is highly recommended and expected that you own your own scuba equipment. With the introduction of Diver Specialties to your resume you will likely find that you require additional scuba accessories - I will help you in determining the best items appropriate for the skills you will be conducting.
